The Elkhart Lake Police and Fire Department helped a person get out of a trench last week.
Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of W. Rhine Street just after 8:00 a.m. in the village on a report of a 55-year-old man who was buried due to a “cave-in” of the earth.
First responders started to dig for the patient so he could breathe and relieve the weight and pressure of material on his chest.
Additional emergency responders showed up to assist with excavation, trench bracing, and patient care.
At 8:30 a.m., the man was freed from the trench using an X-pose commercial trench vac and handed over to Orange Cross paramedics.
He was eventually taken to a local hospital.
Multiple emergency crews from around Sheboygan County were called due to the seriousness of the incident, including fire departments from the City of Sheboygan Falls, the Town of Sheboygan Falls, Cedar Grove, and the City of Sheboygan Rescue.
