Two people are okay after an ultralight plane crash in Door County.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 9000 block of Eagle Lane in the Town of Liberty Grove last Saturday just before 7:45 p.m. after the plane ended up in a field and resting upside down.
Emergency crews found the aircraft and two people who declined medical attention, having only suffered minor cuts and scrapes.
The early investigation shows that the aircraft departed from Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport for a planned one-hour flight before returning to the airport.
While returning, the aircraft experienced an apparent engine failure, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in an open field.
Unfortunately, during the landing, the ultralight airplane overturned.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Sister Bay Fire, Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Emergency Medical Responders, and Door County Emergency Services.
No other information about the airplane crash is being released at this time.
