Two candidates running for Wisconsin’s 25th Assembly District are giving voters an idea of why they want to represent them.
Republican State Representative Paul Tittl and expected Democratic Challenger Chris Abel were on WOMT’s Be My Guest program last week, telling residents why they should go to Madison.
Rep. Tittl, the incumbent, says he has more work he’d like to do on mental health. Specifically, bringing in more workers.
He told the story about a father who explained his son’s mental health troubles to him.
Unfortunately, he revealed the man’s son ended up taking his own life.
“We have to get more mental health services to our people faster,” Tittl explained. “And I don’t know if that means that there’s some type of emergency mental health (program). I know we’re training some police officers and stuff in Madison; I know they’re trained. I think some around here are trained.”
Tittl says he’s written legislation to provide tax incentives to bring psychologists to Wisconsin and has the backing of some big healthcare companies.
Chris Abel says he’s running because there are urgent problems that need to be addressed and have not been by state legislators.
He specifically mentioned the state’s repeated surpluses and how they weren’t used to fund the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.
Abel says he’d like to see money like that go to “Fish sanctuaries, fish ladders, paths, even bathrooms, provides something that benefits not just the sportsmen that live here, but is also benefits tourism, and tourism brings in lots of money.”
