The Green Bay Metro Fire Department had a very busy day yesterday.
At 10:45 a.m. yesterday, emergency crews went to the scene of a gas leak near Kimball and John Street in the city.
It took about 30 minutes to get the leak under control before crews left the neighborhood. Green Bay Metro Fire also took care of two fires yesterday.
Firefighters were called to the 1200 block of Desnoyers Street on a report of smoke and flames coming from a house.
Emergency Crews saw visible smoke while en route, and once on scene, they found it billowing from the roof of the home.
Three occupants and a dog were able to evacuate safely before engine crews started to extinguish the fire and vent the roof to improve access to the home’s attic, where the fire was found.
There were no injuries reported in that fire, but the home was left with around $100,000 in damage.
The second took place in the 1100 block of Allouez Avenue in a wall. Once on scene, fire crews found burned wood chips that extended into the wall with active combustion behind the exterior side.
Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and remove steel siding before the fire could extend into the building and cause further damage.
Green Bay Metro Fire reminded the community to use non-combustible containers for disposing of smoking materials and to make sure they are fully out before disposing.
