The Manitowoc American Legion baseball team’s state tournament dreams are still alive.
Post 88 took down the Appleton DoubleDays in Kimberly yesterday, 6-3, staying alive in the regional tournament.
Manitowoc jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI single from Manitowoc Lincoln’s Benson Dickrell, but Appleton quickly responded, taking a 3-1 lead into the 4th inning.
It was all Manitowoc from there, as they posted 5 runs between the 4th and 6th innings, and held on for the elimination-saving win.
Post 88 scattered 12 hits in the win, with three of them coming off the bat of Kiel’s Aaron Stephany, who also drove in a run.
Dickrell ended the day with two hits, while his classmate, Gabe Eichmann, drove in a run with a double in the 6th.
Brillion’s Joe Shimek earned the win on the mound, striking out 6 batters and walking one in a full-game effort.
In the second game of the night, Kimberly took down Neenah 12-11, setting up another elimination game tonight.
Post 88 will face off against Neenah at 5:00 p.m., with the winner getting a rematch against the host Kimberly squad at 7:30 p.m.
If Kimberly were to lose that game, a winner-take-all matchup would be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
