An annual fishing tournament in Sheboygan has been cancelled.
Organizers for the 58th annual Coho Derby have regretfully announced that the beloved tournament has been called off due to staffing and organizational issues.
As always, the derby was set to take place in the waters of Lake Michigan and was slated for July 31st through August 2nd.
On the news, Anglers Pub & Grill, the event’s intended headquarters, noted, “We were saddened to hear that the Coho Derby has been canceled this year. We know how much this event means to our community.”
Despite the cancellation, Anglers Pub & Grill floated the idea of holding a fishing tournament of their own in place of the annual Coho Derby.
Their post online has received an outpouring of support for a stand-in tournament, with Anglers stating, “We heard you loud and clear! Our manager has already started working behind the scenes with some key people to see what we can make happen. We’re hopeful to have more information to share by the middle of next week, so stay tuned!”
As of now, organizers for the Coho Derby intend to bring back the tournament next year, but additional details were not provided.
