The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is opening a new permanent exhibit celebrating those who’ve left a mark on the state’s maritime history.
The Wisconsin Sailing and Maritime Hall of Fame will open Saturday, September 19th, with an induction ceremony honoring eighteen inaugural members and their contributions to Wisconsin’s maritime legacy.
The group of individuals and organizations whose accomplishments have had a lasting impact on sailing, boating, boat building, and innovation, among others.
Maritime Museum Executive Director Kevin Cullen explains that the stories told in the new hall of fame “reflect the important role Wisconsin has played in shaping maritime industries and boating culture throughout the Great Lakes and beyond.”
One of the more local inductees to the Sailing and Maritime Hall of Fame will be Don O’Keefe, the chief designer for Burger Boat Company for 30 years.
After studying architecture in Dublin and moving to the US, he dedicated his career to marine design, personally creating more than 100 boats and yachts.
