Authorities say a man fleeing police died early Saturday morning in the Chippewa River.
Eau Claire Police responded at around 2:30 a.m. to reports of a fight on a Galloway Street sidewalk.
A man who had fled the scene was later found standing in the river, but, rather than comply with officers’ calls for him to come back to shore, the man went further out into the water.
The unnamed man began to struggle in the river, and his body was later recovered.
