The U.S. Navy is highlighting a servicemember from Manitowoc.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Gavin Froelich serves the “Sea Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron on board Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia.
Froehlich is a 2022 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School and says the skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy were found in the Clipper City.
Gavin says he’s always wanted to serve and originally wanted to join the Marines, but “the Navy showed up at my door first.”
The “Sea Knights” fly and maintain MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopters with missions including airborne mine countermeasures, combat search and rescue, anti-surface warfare, combat logistics, and medevac.
Froelich has had many opportunities to achieve accomplishments in the Navy, including “getting several handfuls of sailors promoted, something he’s most proud of.”
Gavin finishes saying that serving in the Navy means he is working for his country and is grateful to others for making his career possible.
The Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.
