A senior-based care center in Sheboygan County is celebrating a major milestone.
Opened in 1926, Plymouth’s Rocky Knoll Health Care Center is celebrating 100 years of care and compassion in 2026.
First serving as a tuberculosis sanatorium for residents of Sheboygan County, Rocky Knoll has evolved into a nursing and rehabilitation facility with the ability to care for nearly 150 residents.
Kayla Clinton, the Administrator of Rocky Knoll, spoke with SeehaferNews.com about what they are trying to accomplish with this century celebration.
“We have a really rich history,” She explained. “And because we’re in the business of taking care of people, we’re really trying to celebrate the history, the milestone, and all of the good people that have made our organization a success.”
Part of the 100-year celebration is the formation of two $50,000 fundraising initiatives: the Century Fund to honor the history of the establishment, and the Joy Ride Fund to aid current Rocky Knoll Residents.
Clinton explained to us what the Century Fund will aim to do.
“We’ve made a lot of improvements to our facility through the support of grants and other funding from the county. And one area that we identified that we really want to promote is having a historical and educational timeline that really features our history,” Clinton noted. “So people will stop, read, look, reminisce.”
However, the Joy Ride Fund aims to benefit not those who have come and gone, but those currently in their care.
She told us, “The wheelchair accessible golf cart is a custom-built piece of equipment vehicle. It’s going to have the ramp for accessibility. And then we also want it to be able to carry other passengers besides potentially two wheelchairs, giving residents more mobility and being able to access all of our grounds.”
Clinton added that the wheelchair accessible golf cart is also a homage to Rocky Knoll’s past as a tuberculosis sanatorium, as one of the ailment’s original treatments included fresh air and sun porches.
She also said that to properly honor the past 100 years, Rocky Knoll will be holding its Centennial Celebration from September 10th to September 12th.
“The Centennial Celebration, we have two days planned,” Clinton stated. “September 10th, That is going to start off with the reunion luncheon. So, we’re going to welcome people that have stories or family members or have worked for one of our health care facilities. The following Saturday, we’re going to have a Centennial Carnival, and this will be a public celebration where anyone can come.”
