The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has extended the Air Quality Advisory for all of northeast Wisconsin, including Manitowoc County, until 6 p.m. this (Friday) evening.
Air quality is expected to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups (Orange) to unhealthy (Red) levels for all citizens due to smoke from wildfires burning in Canada and Minnesota.
All are encouraged to consider rescheduling or moving activities indoors, while people with asthma and heart disease are asked to follow any action plans and to contact their health provider with any questions or concerns.
The DNR adds that smoke clearing is expected from west to east throughout the day, but eastern areas of Wisconsin will continue to see an impact into the afternoon. The advisory has been extended for these areas.
There is also a possibility that the Air Quality Advisory could be reissued for parts of the state tomorrow, including the Lake Michigan shoreline.
