The Two Rivers Fire Department was called to the shores of Lake Michigan for a water rescue yesterday (July 14th).
The City of Two Rivers Watercraft Rescue Team was informed of people on floaties who had drifted too far from shore just before 11:15 a.m.
When the team arrived, they learned that the two adults and one child were about a half mile off the shore north of Rawley Point after the wind and current conditions took control of their flotation devices.
The swimmers were returned to shore within 15 minutes and are said to be uninjured.
The Fire Department is reminding those who are looking to enjoy the Lake Michigan waters at Neshotah Beach, or any other beach, that even a light onshore breeze can reverse and push floats, rafts, and swimmers away from shore quickly.
Specifically near Rawley Point, conditions are particularly unpredictable due to the natural geography, which can funnel and amplify wind and water movement.
