Hundreds of thousands of Kia vehicles are subject to a park outside recall.
According to the manufacturer, 462,869 Kia Telluride vehicles are to be parked outside due to a risk of fire while driving or while the SUV is parked.
On the cause of this potentially dangerous issue, Kia stated, “If the front power seat slide cover or knob is hit or accidentally struck, the switch can be dislodged, misaligned or damaged, leading to continuous operation and overheating of the seat motor. An improper repair under the previous recall could also lead to the motor overheating and catching fire.”
At this time, Kia is aware of seven such seat fires and 11 seat motors overheating and melting.
Kia has also noted that it will begin contacting affected vehicle owners on August 13th to schedule repairs at a local dealership and that a searchable database for affected vehicle identification numbers and related license plate numbers will go live on Friday (July 17th).
However, 2020 to 2024 Telluride vehicle owners are advised to park outside until repairs are made.
