Work on the former Mirro property near downtown Manitowoc should begin very soon.
Mayor Justin Nickels confirmed with SeehaferNews.com that the DNR has signed off on the site, allowing the city to conduct the rest of the cleanup on the property spanning the 1500 block of Washington Street.
That project is expected to begin in the coming weeks and will take two weeks to complete.
Then, in early August, Mayor Nickels says the city will officially sell the property.
“The contractor that is doing (the cleanup) is the same contractor that is going to be working with Gorman, the company that is (responsible for the) building,” he explained. “They have to have a shovel in the ground by August 15th, required by the federal grant they got.”
The city approved the final development agreement for a new four-story, 52,000-square-foot workforce-housing apartment building with 59 apartments back in April.
That building will be on the Washington Street side of the property, with another development still in the works for the Franklin Street side.
