A newly created all-women’s a cappella group in Manitowoc is getting a new director.
Starting this month, Jennifer Kasten will lead the Badger Bells, a group affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Clipper City Chordsmen Director Don Lewellen says Kasten is a vocal performer and teacher with a bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from DePaul University and has performed with many regional opera companies and symphonies.
On the lakeshore, she’s worked with the Lakeshore Bib Band, Wind Ensemble, and Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra.
Jennifer grew up in a barbershop household with her father being a barbershop singer and arranger.
She also attended many competitions and afterglows, recalling that she got to “stay up late and all the people were insanely friendly.”
Kasten will attend Harmony University in Denver, CO, at the end of this month with help from a scholarship to get reacquainted with the unique harmonies of the barbershop genre.
Women interested in joining the Badger Bells all-women barbershop chorus can meet Jennifer on Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Grow It Forwards headquarters on Marshall Street in Manitowoc.
