The Door County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death at a park northwest of Sturgeon Bay.
Deputies and other emergency departments were called to the 4000 block of Bay Shore Drive in the Town of Sevastopol on Sunday, just before 3:00 p.m., for a water emergency.
Initial details show that a group of friends was swimming near a boat in the waters adjacent to Pinney Park.
One of the swimmers called out for someone to throw them a lifebuoy.
Door County Chief Deputy Kyle Veeser says another person later pulled the unconscious swimmer from the water and assisted them back to the boat.
The swimmer was taken to a hospital but was later pronounced deceased.
The incident is now under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR, and no further information is being released at this time.
