Sheboygan’s Board of Water Commissioners is looking to the Department of Natural Resources for loan funding.
At this week’s Sheboygan Common Council meeting, the Waterworks Commissioners were approved to apply for three loans, totaling $5 million, through the Safe Drinking Water Loan program.
The loans are broken down into two $1 million loans and one worth $3 million.
The purpose of these loans will be to help fund the replacement of lead service lines on private properties across the city.
Currently, the three loans are expected to be used during the 2027 and 2028 construction seasons and will be intended for “urgent spot replacement of leaking lead service lines.”
The funds will also be allocated in conjunction with the Sheboygan Department of Public Works street projects to “minimize construction impacts and to benefit public health.”
