A local doggie day care is coming up on one month of operation.
Patriot Pup first opened in mid-June, offering a place for dog owners to leave their furry friends when they don’t have a dog sitter.
Co-owner Amber Hutchinson tells SeehaferNews.com that she and her partner Brian Thompson are very happy with how the first few weeks have gone.
“We are getting busier. People are coming in looking around. We love showing off our space, giving tours. Staff are becoming more comfortable. They are all learning. Some of them have been in the business for 20 plus years and some are brand new, YA kids.”
But, as Amber explained, it definitely wasn’t an easy task getting the doors open.
“There is nowhere in all the research we do that says warning you might not sleep the first week of opening a business or the week prior.”
But, they pushed through, and now couldn’t be more happy with how things have grown, especially the grooming department.
There are three groomers: Joey, who has a ton of experience grooming dogs, and two young apprentices, Aubrey and Taylor.
“That is become a powerhouse trio back there. They’re so talented. They’re all artists in their work and they care so much and they’re so kind to every dog that walks through, even if it’s maybe a a scared dog or dog that doesn’t like grooming.”

Patriot Pup also features 20 suites in small, medium, and large sizes, as well as spaces for “bougie” and no-touch, aggressive dogs.
“They can go in and out on their own with a proximity color. If your dog doesn’t like wearing colors, we can open the door from our phones.”
All dogs boarding at Patriot Pup are let out a minimum of three times per day, but Amber noted that it is realistically much more often than that.
When you enter the building at 5814 Calumet Avenue, there is a boutique offering a wide array of pet supplies, including human-grade treats with numerous flavors.
