The City of Two Rivers is taking another step toward expanding affordable housing.
The City Council recently approved a one-year extension of TIF District 9, which was created in 2003 to support the development of the Eggers/VT Industries headquarters just north of the high school.
This area has been very successful, bringing $23,000,000 of private sector investment into Two Rivers.
With this extension, City Manager Kyle Kordel says the city has one more year of value around VT industries and will be reinvesting it into a housing-related development.
He told SeehaferNews.com, “The plan is to prepare a 24-acre site for a new residential neighborhood that is likely to include 35 to 40 single-family homes, along with multi-family housing in a portion of it.”
Kordel says the City Council is aware of the need for more affordable housing for lower-income families, and they are trying their best to make Two Rivers a place where young families can settle down and have successful lives.
The City Manager explained, “This is about creating opportunities for people making under $100,000 per year to choose Two Rivers and growing our community in a way that will strengthen our tax base, and this helps everybody.”
Kordel encourages residents to reach out to his office to learn more about the proposal and to be a part of the conversation.
