The leading Republican in Wisconsin’s gubernatorial race made his priorities clear during a stop in Manitowoc.
Congressman Tom Tiffany spoke to supporters at Salute to Everyone yesterday evening and told SeehafernNews.com that his main priorities, if he’s elected governor, include ending a 400-year increase in school funding, keeping wind, solar, and data centers away from farmland, and lowering Wisconsin’s utility rates.
“Utility rates have went up over $2 billion,” he revealed. “We used to be among the lowest energy cost states for utilities a decade or two ago. We are now the second highest in the Midwest. We need to get those utility rates under control.”
During his speech, Tiffany told a crowd of around 70 people he didn’t run to be a career politician, but because he loves Wisconsin.
The Minocqua Republican spoke about his background as a farmer and business owner before strongly criticizing Governor Tony Evers.
“We have a governor who just vetoed a bill that keeps boys from playing girls sports,” he told the crowd. “He’s just fine with that. He vetoed a bill that allows China to buy farmland. That’s unacceptable, isn’t it? He’s stopped us from being able to root out fraud and waste. He refuses to audit state agencies here in Wisconsin.”
He also took shots at Mandela Barnes and Francesca Hong on their stances of “abolishing police” and the “founding of the United States,” saying he won’t let politicians tear down Wisconsin and the United States.
He exclaimed, “I refuse to allow Minnesota’s madness and Illinois’s insanity to become Wisconsin’s way of life.”
Tiffany also took some questions from supporters about election integrity, public education, and veteran affairs.
He says that in Congress, he makes it a priority to ensure veterans get their benefits and to support them at home, too.
“Back when I was in the (state) legislature, I voted for the Chippewa Falls home when it was approved back in 2011 so veterans in Northwestern Wisconsin had a good place to be able to get services,” he explained. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, including at Union Grove, which has been a real problem. It will be top priority, yes sir.”
Wisconsin Attorney General Candidate Eric Toney also spoke for a few minutes, saying he will put public safety over politics, unlike current Attorney General Josh Kaul.
Tiffany is one of two Republican candidates running after Candidates Bill Berrian and Josh Schomann dropped out.
President Trump gave his endorsement to the Republican gubernatorial leader not long after he announced he was running.
The Partisan Primary Election falls on August 11th in Wisconsin.
