The mother of the child who captured the state’s attention after going missing two years ago is looking for a new attorney.
33-year-old Katrina Baur has submitted a letter to the court requesting new legal representation, claiming her current counsel “refused to meaningfully discuss or prepare a trial strategy for me.”
The page and a half long letter pointed to other issues with her lawyer, Amber Gratz, who has not responded to the claims.
A motion hearing to discuss the issues has been set for July 13th in front of Judge Anthony Lambrecht.
Baur was arrested after the remains of her son, 3-year-old Elijah Vue, were located in a wooded area in the Town of Two Rivers, nearly seven months after he had disappeared from her boyfriend Jesse Vang’s home.
She allegedly told police that she brought her child to Vang so he could “teach him how to be a man”.
This resulted in multiple instances of abuse, culminating in the events of February 20th, 2024.
Vang reported Elijah missing at 11:00 a.m., but police believe it had been hours since the child was actually in the home.
Baur currently has a two and a half week long trial slated to begin on April 14th, 2027, but that may be adjusted depending on what happens with her request.
Vang, meanwhile, also has a motion hearing on July 31st, and will go on trial at the same time as Baur.
