One of my favorite parts about working at Manitowoc Public Library is the cool programs we have that create opportunities that people might not get otherwise. You may think of the library as a place for books, but with our Digital Film Scanner Badging Session on Friday, July 10, it’s also a place where old memories can find new life.
We all know that grandparent or parent who has a treasure trove of slides, negatives, and old photographs hidden away in a closet, basement, or attic. These are the precious snapshots of family vacations, holiday get-togethers, graduations, and those little everyday moments that weave the story of our lives. The tricky part is that many of these memories are stored in formats that can be tough to enjoy these days! That’s where Manitowoc Public Library’s new addition to that Idea Box makerspace comes in—the Kodak SCANZA Digital film scanner.
Manitowoc Public Library is hosting a Digital Film Scanner Badging Session in the Idea Box makerspace on Friday, July 10, from 2 to 3:30 PM. This is a great chance for folks to learn how to turn slides and film negatives into digital files. It’s super easy and you don’t need any prior experience with the technology. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to keep those special memories alive and share them with family and friends.
During the Digital Film Scanner Badging Session, library staff will walk you through how the Kodak SCANZA works and help you get the hang of it. Once the training is complete, participants will be “badged,” which means you can stop by MPL and use the Kodak SCANZA on your own to work on preserving your slides and film.
I really love programs like this because they bring together the best parts of what libraries do—connecting people with tech while also keeping personal and community stories alive. It’s exciting to see an old image pop up on a screen after years of being tucked away, ready to be saved and shared once again.
