The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is supporting a new childcare project in Outagamie County.
A new partnership between the county and Fox Cities YMCA would turn a vacant building in the Town of Grand Chute into a modern childcare facility with room for up to 100 children.
The WEDC says Outagamie County faces a critical shortage of more than 1,200 children waiting for an open childcare slot.
A $250,000 grant will support the project.
Fox Cities YMCA Childhood Director Ashley Brockman says opening the 100 childcare spots on the Brewster Village Campus helps a lot, since finding a place to send children is hard, especially with more than one child.
Children aged six weeks to six years will be eligible for the beds. The new space also includes two outdoor playgrounds.
Outagamie County will still own the building, but the YMCA of the Fox Cities will fund furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
They will also lease the building from the county for $1 a year.
