The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be looking to keep state waters safe over the holiday weekend.
The DNR has announced it will again join law enforcement agencies nationwide for Operation Dry Water.
Operation Dry Water is an annual campaign aimed at curbing boating while impaired this 4th of July.
However, a heightened presence will be on patrol statewide from Friday (July 3rd) through Sunday (July 5th).
Lt. John Sinclair, DNR Boating Law Administrator, noted that holiday weekends see a major uptick in boating activity, while adding, “Unfortunately, with that increased traffic comes more people who choose to operate their boats drunk or high. Boating under the influence is irresponsible, illegal, and puts everyone at risk. Make the right choice.”
Wardens out on patrol will focus on public education, compliance checks, and efforts to identify and remove impaired boat operators.
