A decades-long tradition in Sheboygan Falls is set to return this weekend.
The Ducktona 500 Family Festival and Car Show will take place on Sunday (July 5th) at River Park, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Each year, the beloved summertime event is hosted by Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street, and the organization’s Executive Director, Tammy Meyer, spoke with SeehaferNews.com about what goes into planning it.
“Well, it starts in January, and then we kind of do planning all through the year,” She explained. So, it is a hectic week. We have all of our deliveries and all of the last-minute things that we need to do. But it’s a long process,” Meyer explained.
Meyer also tells us that visitors can expect all the regular, free attractions that make Ducktona such a hit, including live music, family-friendly fun, and 100-plus cars in the car show.
However, she did share one thing that is new for this year’s event.
“This year we have a new event which is Club SciKidz from Milwaukee,” Meyer noted. “They are putting on two shows and it’s Chemistry Chaos. So, lots of fun things for kids to teach them about science and chemistry.”
However, the event’s premier attraction, the rubber duck race, will have over $1,000 on the line for the top finishers.
For those unfamiliar with the duck race, Meyer offered a bit of an explanation on what to expect.
“You adopt a duck through buying a raffle ticket, and then at 3:00, we dump 4,500 ducks into the Sheboygan River. They go through a track, and you can cheer on your duck to be the first one in,” Meyer told us.
The winning duck will win $1,000, second gets $500, $250 to the third place finisher, and fourth wins $100.
Ducks can be adopted for $5 a piece or $20 for 5. To close, Meyer also shared why the Ducktona 500 is a must for local families.
“It’s a family event and there’s something for everyone,” Executive Director Meyer stated. “If you like cars, lots of food trucks, lots of kids activities, and beautiful scenery in River Park. I would say besides your food and your tickets and drinks, pretty much everything is free.”
Tickets for the duck race can be purchased at the event or at the Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street Office ahead of time.
