The stepmother of an Outagamie County teen found severely emaciated is heading to prison.
52-year-old Melissa Goodman was in court yesterday (July 1st), where she was ordered by Judge Mitchell Metropulos to spend 15 years behind bars, followed by 10 years on extended supervision.
She was previously found guilty due to no contest pleas on charges of Chronic Neglect of a Child, Consequence is Great Bodily Harm, Chronic Neglect of a Child, Consequence is Emotional Damage, and False Imprisonment in May.
The 52-year-old is married to Walter Goodman, the father of the 14-year-old girl who, when found by police, weighed just 35 pounds.
Both the Goodmans, along with Melissa’s daughter, Savana LeFever, and LeFever’s partner, Kayla Stemler, have all been charged in the case.
Walter is due back in court on Tuesday after he underwent a competency evaluation, LeFever is due for a pre-trial conference on July 20th, and Stemler will be sentenced on August 24th.
Despite the tragic conditions the child was found in, a GoFundMe page set up for her by her cousin notes, “Physically, she has made tremendous progress. Since her rescue, she has made remarkable strides…Her body, which had been deprived of nourishment for far too long, is beginning to heal.”
