A local Girl Scout has received a national scholarship.
Cova DeBauche from Two Rivers was awarded a $5,000 national scholarship from Girl Scouts of the USA for her Gold Award, the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn.
Cova has a passion for music education, and used that drive to help create a mural that promoted the importance of music education and creative expression.
She worked with volunteers, coordinated the project from start to finish, and overcame challenges to ensure its success.
The mural sparked conversations throughout the school community about the value of music programs and serves as a lasting reminder of the role music plays in students’ education and personal growth.
She said of the honor, “This will aid my research at UW-Milwaukee for my major in social work. I can take this education and apply it in the real world. I want to continue to help others and spread love.”
In recognition of her Gold Award achievement, Cova was invited to the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, where she met Governor Tony Evers alongside other recent Gold Award Girl Scouts from across the state.
