
Unemployment rates in Eastern Wisconsin are continuing to shrink.
According to the Department of Workforce Development, the City of Manitowoc has seen a steady drop in the unemployment rate over the past three months.
In March, 3.9% of the city was unemployed, but that rate dropped to 3.3 % in April, and 2.8% last month.
That is also down from the 3% reported in May of 2026. Meanwhile, Manitowoc County’s 2.7% unemployment rate is 1.1 points lower than in March, and slightly down from April’s rate of 3%.
That is also slightly lower than the 2.8% reported in May of last year.
Sheboygan County’s May 2026 unemployment rate is .2 of a percentage point, from last May and .3 down from April.
Calumet County saw a decrease from 2.5% to 2.3%, Kewaunee County’s unemployment dropped from 2.7% to 2.4%, and Brown County fell from 2.8% to 2.7%.
Outagamie and Door Counties also saw a decrease in unemployment from May 2025 to May 2026.
In cities across Wisconsin, including Manitowoc and Sheboygan, unemployment rates also went down.
