Two local tourism leaders has been honored by the governor.
Two Rivers’ Tourism Director Caitlyn Meola and former Tourism Director Joe Metzen attended the Wisconsin Governor’s Outdoor Recreation Awards Celebration at the Governor’s Residence on behalf of Explore Two Rivers.
They accepted the First Ascent Award for Innovation for Two Rivers’ partnership with the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary.
The project provides an interactive experience for paddlers exploring near-shore shipwrecks in the Two Rivers area.
Using AI technology, Explore Two Rivers created a podcast for each shipwreck, accessible by scanning QR codes mounted on buoys.
Visitors can listen to a 12-to-15-minute audio story about the history of each shipwreck and its crew while experiencing the site firsthand.
