A taser had to be used to subdue a Newton man who fled from police.
Two Rivers Police pulled over 29-year-old Brennon Toltzmann in the 1500 block of 20th Street Wednesday night at 10:00 p.m.
Lieutenant Logan Tlachac says Toltzmann was showing signs of impairment before he was asked to exit his vehicle.
Instead, the 29-year-old took off in his vehicle, causing a police pursuit.
During the nine-mile pursuit, Tlachac says Toltzmann intentionally hit a marked patrol vehicle, continued off-road in an attempt to evade officers, and would later crash near N.10th Street and Waldo Blvd.
After the crash, the suspect attempted to flee again in his disabled vehicle before exiting it.
Tolzmann would then try to steal a police squad car to evade the officer.
That’s when a taser was used to take him into custody.
Tolzmann faces a slew of charges, including operating while under the influence, a 3rd offense, fleeing or eluding an officer, recklessly endangering safety, resisting or obstructing an officer, attempting to operate a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and criminal damage to property.
As we previously reported, three Two Rivers Police squad cars were damaged during the pursuit.
The incident remains under investigation.
