A big change is coming to high school basketball.
The Wisconsin Athletic Association’s Board of Control approved a regulated 35-second shot clock for boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball games Tuesday morning.
That could be implemented as early as this upcoming season.
Schools will be permitted to use it in non-conference games this season and next, provided both teams agree with a full mandatory implementation across all varsity basketball games to go into effect for the 2028-2029 season.
The vote was 10-1 in favor, with the full WIAA membership voting on the proposed 2028-29 statewide mandate at their 2027 annual meeting.
