Tourism has seen a major uptick in the Sheboygan area.
Mayor Ryan Sorenson recently took to social media to tell residents that Sheboygan County saw nearly double the increase in tourism over the past year compared to Wisconsin as a whole.
“We got our state tourism numbers back. In the entire State of Wisconsin, there was a 4.4% increase in tourists. And in Sheboygan County, more specifically, we saw an 8.2% increase in tourism all across the board,” Mayor Sorenson explained.
Mayor Sorenson continued to say just how significant this increase was in terms of the local economy throughout the county.
“This means that we saw a $516 million economic impact for our entire community. This means guests and visitors are spending their dollars and time at our local shops, our bars and restaurants, and enjoying everything that Sheboygan has to offer,” the Mayor stated. “We did this together. We showcased our community, and let’s continue to do some great work and strengthen our local economy.”
These numbers are expected to be boosted even more as the American Cruise Lines’ Lake Michigan & Upper Peninsula Cruise is set to make its first-ever stop in Sheboygan tomorrow (June 25th).
The Lake Michigan Cruise will begin in Milwaukee, before stops in Sheboygan, Escanaba, Green Bay, Muskegon, and back to Milwaukee.
