The City of Manitowoc no longer has a special events committee.
The Common Council voted unanimously last week to dissolve the committee, saying it’s no longer needed or useful. Any special event policy requirements will now go through the city’s newly recreated Parks and Recreation Department.
They will make decisions on proposed special events and must be informed of street work and closures to make recommendations and provide information for events.
The special events committee was previously run by Visit Manitowoc.
Tourism Director Courtney Hansen says they will still try to bring events to the Clipper City and will do the marketing for any new event.
The special events committee was first created back in 2015.
