Sheboygan’s Police Department is reminding residents to keep their lawns mowed this summer.
The City of Sheboygan’s Municipal Code states that no resident or property owner is allowed to let their grass grow in excess of 12 inches in height.
In the event that a lawn does get taller than 12 inches, the Department of Public Works will give the property a 48-hour notice that it must be cut.
If the grass is not cut, the DPW will take it upon itself to mow the lawn, and the property owner or tenant will be billed for their work.
Sheboygan Police continue to say that long, unkempt lawns can be a breeding ground for ticks, fleas, mice, and other pests.
A residence with long grass can also create the appearance that the home is either abandoned or that someone is on a long vacation, both of which SPD states make a home more likely to be the target for criminal activity.
Reports can be made on the Sheboygan DPW website, while more information on the City’s Public Nuisance Ordinances can be found at sheboyganwi.gov.
