The Manitowoc Public School District wants to continue to support its support staff.
Superintendent Lee Thennes said on the WCUB Breakfast Club that the school board unanimously approved a 7.5% wage increase to remain competitive with other districts.
Thennes says supports staff includes, “Classroom aids or paraprofessionals, our custodial and maintenance folks, our secretaries, our interpreters,” and more.
Thennes says the district’s wages were not competitive with other support staff pay.
A memo from the district showed that before the increase, they were in the bottom-to-lower-bottom tier for support staff pay in building and grounds, paraprofessionals, and clericals.
The approval also increases the district’s support staff budget to just over $601,000.
