The Kiel girls’ soccer team used a strong defensive effort to take down Luxemburg-Casco in the Division 3 Sectional Semifinals.
The Raiders limited the Spartans’ chances in the 2-0 win, with Coach Mike Pritchard specifically praising the work of Emma Thiebault.
She was tasked with shutting down their leading scorer, a job she executed to perfection.
Coach Pritchard also praised Callaway Goodman and Bella Schrage for their job in allowing only two shots on net, each of which was saved by Mya Langenfeld.
On the offensive side of the field, Taavi Saeger was unfazed by a one-hour weather delay, netting her first goal in the 9th minute, and expanded the lead in the 32nd minute.
Things will get much more difficult for the Raiders, as they have a rematch with the mighty Notre Dame Tritons.
The last time these teams met on May 11th, neither team could gain an advantage, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.
The Raiders haven’t given up a goal since, extending their shutout streak to nine games last night.
Coach Pritchard says this matchup, which is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the home of the Tritons, will “easily be the hardest match of the season.”
