The City of Kiel is looking at its electric utility base rate.
Last night, the city council approved Ehlers and Associates to file a 2026 Conventional Rate Case study with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission on behalf of Kiel Electric Utility.
City Administrator Ryan Pafford says it’s necessary to evaluate current electric rates in relation to operating expenses, capital investments, and long-term financial stability.
Approval from the council allows the city’s financial advisor to begin the review process to make sure Kiel’s electricity remains “financially sustainable and continues to provide reliable service.”
The Public Service Commission will review the city’s application before having a public hearing and deciding on whether rates in the city could increase.
