The Manitowoc County Mariners try to get back on the winning track this afternoon as they travel to Sun Prairie West High School to meet the Middleton Panthers in a Northern Lights League football game.
The Mariners had a two-game winning streak snapped last Saturday in Winneconne as the league-leading Fox River Raiders posted a 16 to 7 victory.
The defense continues to impress as they recorded the Mariners’ only touchdown on a fumble recovery in the endzone, while the offense under quarterback R.J. Jeffrey continues to improve as they look for consistency each week.
Meanwhile, it’s been a tough go for the Panthers as they’ve been shut out in three of four games while scoring a total of 12 points all season.
The kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. this afternoon. Elsewhere in semipro football, the Sheboygan County SaberCats return home to Lakeland University to meet the Burlington Blue Devils in a Midwest League contest.
The SaberCats seem to be back to their old selves after posting back-to-back victories over the Blue Devils (44 to 16 on May 16th) and putting up 60 points in a 60 to 13 rout of The Dubuque Miners last Saturday in Dubuque, Iowa, to improve to 4 and 1 on the season.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
