Despite a hard-fought battle, the Manitowoc Lincoln girls’ soccer team saw its season come to an end last night.
Freshman Brookelyn Kuffel scored off a 2-on-1 rush at the 88:45 mark to give Oshkosh West a 1-0 overtime win over Manitowoc Lincoln in a WIAA Division One girls’ regional semifinal soccer match Tuesday night at Ron Rubick Field in Manitowoc.
It was a tightly contested match throughout, with the visiting Wildcats controlling the pace of play, especially in the second half.
They had several scoring chances, only to be thwarted by senior goalkeeper Julie Sieracki.
A near-capacity crowd was at full throat down the stretch, trying to help the Ships to victory, and it almost worked.
The Ships appeared to have taken the lead with 46 seconds left in regulation, as on their only corner kick of the match, the Ships put pressure on goal with Lila Redwine able to sneak the ball into the net, only to be waived off by an offside call.
The match would be extended to two 10-minute extra periods with Kuffel’s goal being the only one scored, and Oshkosh West atones for a 4-1 loss to Ships back on April 23rd to advance to a regional final at top seed Arrowhead Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
The Ships end their most successful season in program history with a record of 10-10-3.
