Students from across Sheboygan County recently had the opportunity to learn more about local government.
Sheboygan County hosted students from Kohler, Sheboygan South, and Sheboygan Central High Schools to participate in Youth Government Day.
This event, which took place across two days in April and May, aimed to provide students with an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at how our local government bodies function.
In total, the students interacted with 12 different county departments and had the chance to speak with the County Board Chairman and Vice Chairmen.
On Youth Government Day, the students took part in a mock trial at the courthouse, a mock County Board meeting, and participated in the “Game of Life.”
Regarding the students’ participation, County Administrator Alayne Krause noted, “The energy and curiosity these students brought to the table were truly inspiring.”
While County Board Chairman Keith Abler added that his experience with them was extremely rewarding.
The County believes that holding events such as this can foster the next generation of leaders.
