The Kewaunee baseball team was looking to complete a perfect regular season last night at Manitowoc’s Bruce Steinbecker Field.
The Storm were in town to face the Ships of Manitowoc Lincoln, which is trying to pick up momentum before the postseason.
It was a tight battle all the way through, but in the end, the Storm made history and finished the regular season a perfect 25-0 with a 3-1 win over the Ships.
The Storm jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, but the Ships bounced back in the 2nd with a run of their own.
A defensive battle ensued, with neither team giving an inch until the Storm scored an insurance run in the 7th.
The Manitowoc Lincoln bats never got anything going, only notching 3 hits on the day, with Turner Sorenson driving home the only Ships run.
As for the Storm, Coach Dan Spranger said he is proud of his team, but they need to keep their eyes on the prize.
“25-0 is great, it’s awesome, something to put in the history books, but now its 0-0 and we go from there,” he tells SeehaferNews.com.
The Storm will take on #9 Peshtigo next Tuesday in the WIAA Regional tournament, with the winner facing either Oconto or Crivitz for the Regional title.
Manitowoc Lincoln, which fell to 13-12 on the season, has one more regular-season matchup tonight, a home game against Kaukauna, before they begin their postseason push.
