Progress is being made at a former factory site in Two Rivers.
The city said on Tuesday that environmental soil sampling took place for the first time at the former Hamilton property.
City officials explain that while much work remains, it’s another meaningful step toward understanding the site’s environmental conditions and preparing for long-term development.
Collected soil samples are being analyzed by the Wisconsin DNR, with results expected by the end of June.
The findings will help guide future environmental planning and redevelopment discussions if and when the city decides to purchase the property.
It’s still owned by Thermo-Fischer, which owned Hamilton when the building was torn down over a decade ago.
Two Rivers is starting the final phase of bringing everything they worked on with the community through a community visioning process.
Four meetings were held with Two Rivers residents, which included creating their own new area on the Hamilton site.
The city council will receive a full report sometime in June.
