Sheboygan County’s Habitat for Humanity Lakeside has reached a major milestone through its Home Buyers Program.
Volunteers, builders, organizers, and community members gathered yesterday (May 27th) to celebrate the dedication of Habitat Lakeside’s 53rd home built in the county.
At the dedication, the home buyer, Kewanna, and her four children were glowing with excitement at what this day meant and for what the future will hold, having a space to call their own.
She spoke to SeehaferNews.com about some of the emotions she was feeling on her and her family’s special day.
“Just pure excitement, it’s like jittery, it’s nerve-racking a little bit, only because I’m a first-time homeowner, you know,” she said. “And then with my four babies watching that hawk eye. So, it’s a little nerve-racking, but it’s just joy and excitement, really.”
She also spoke about how much of a life-changing moment this was for her and her children.
“Well, really, for my kids, for my baby’s growing up having a home to come to forever and just to see, you know, grandbabies in the future home and come visit grandma, you know,” she told us. “It’s just the thought of the future and how happy they will be.”
Kewanna also mentioned how much she has learned in terms of being a first-time home owner, thanks to working right alongside Habitat for Humanity during the building process.
Habitat Lakeside’s Executive Director, Le’Shay Guy, who spoke to those in attendance prior to the home blessing and key presentation, also told us that the feeling she has on days like this will never get old.
“Never!” she said emphatically. “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this feeling, truly. I feel very blessed to be a part of this process.”
The home, located in Central Sheboygan, is just under 1,500 square feet, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
While stressing the importance of the day, Executive Director Guy also noted that Habitat for Humanity is already preparing for the dedication of its 54th home built in Sheboygan County, which is slated for the end of June.
