Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been released from custody.
Brown County District Attorney David Lasee has announced that, at this time, he and his office are not yet prepared to file criminal charges against Jacobs but have instead requested additional investigation into the case.
This comes after Jacobs was arrested yesterday (May 27th) on a referral of charges, including Battery, Criminal Damage to Property, and Disorderly Conduct, each with Domestic Violence enhancers, as well as Strangulation and Suffocation, and Intimidation of a Victim by the Hobart/Lawrence Police Department.
DA Lasee continues to say that law enforcement in Wisconsin is required to make an arrest when there is probable cause that a crime has been committed.
However, when the DA’s Office makes a decision to formally file criminal charges against an individual, in this case Jacobs, there must be “admissible evidence available that rises to the level of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Currently, the Brown County DA’s Office feels that the evidence available has not reached that point yet, but further investigation into the matter may reveal additional evidence that warrants charges to be filed.
For this reason, Jacobs has been released from custody while the investigation continues, and DA Lasee closed by stating, “A final charging decision will be made by our office at a later date.”
