The Manitowoc County Historical Society is ready for a busy summer of events.
As Memorial Day serves as the unofficial kickoff to summer for many, the Historical Society is prepared to see an influx of visitors and programs over the coming months.
Executive Director Amy Meyer tells SeehaferNews.com the Historical Society has been up to a lot in the month of May.
“Our spring was especially busy with school buses,” Meyer recalled. “This spring, we are on par to have about 2,000 visit us in the month of May. So spectacular turnout for all the educators that view us as an extension of their classroom.”
Looking ahead, the next major event on tap at the Historical Society will be the Maker’s Market, set for June 27th and 28th at the Pinecrest Village.
“Maker’s Market really is first and foremost a way to collect artisans from throughout the past,” she explained. “So, everything from blacksmithing to rose modeling and even carpentry, needlework, and printmaking.”
Past Maker’s Market, Meyer also stated that the summer months for the Historical Society are deeply rooted in teaching visitors.
Executive Director Meyer said, “Our summer is really about education, so we have a whole bunch of summer camps available for youth and big kids as well. So, we’ve got family camps, we also, this year, are highlighting an adult field trip.”
She also stressed that so much of what they do, like these summertime programs, is made possible through the work of volunteers.
“We love volunteers. We have about 187 registered volunteers that last year completed over 5,000 hours with us,” Meyer said with gratitude.
Anyone who would like to get involved as a volunteer at the Historical Society is encouraged to reach out and find a time and a task that best suits them.
