A Mishicot man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his own daughter is still without legal representation.
Court records show that 38-year-old Travis L. Besaw was back in court this week for a scheduled preliminary hearing as he faces charges of First-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child with the Use of Force, Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child, Incest with Child, Strangulation and Suffocation, and Solicit an Intimate Representation from Minor.
On Thursday (May 21st), that preliminary hearing was changed to a status conference as it was revealed that Besaw is still without a lawyer to represent him in the case.
For this reason, the 38-year-old requested that the hearing be pushed back until legal counsel is appointed to represent him as he qualifies for the Public Defenders program.
That request was honored, and the hearing was pushed back.
Besaw is accused of continually and forcibly engaging in sexual contact with his daughter over the past two years, starting when she was just 14 years old.
It is also alleged that Besaw did this through coercive means, offering drugs and alcohol to his daughter in order to sexually assault her, then threatening to turn her in to the police for her drug use if she told anyone about his actions.
Besaw’s rescheduled preliminary hearing will take place on Thursday (May 28th).
Until then, he remains in custody on a $500,000 cash bail.
