While the Two Rivers continues its cleanup efforts, residents now have to worry about scammers taking advantage of the situation.
The City of Two Rivers has received reports of people getting unsolicited text messages and door-to-door contacts from people offering tree removal and cleanup services while implying they may be associated with the City or legitimate tree removal companies.
This is a common tactic by scammers who tend to prey on the vulnerable.
The City noted that they never send unsolicited text messages offering cleanup services and that legitimate tree removal companies will not ask for advance payment for emergency storm response work.
They warn residents to be cautious of contractors demanding cash up front, pressuring immediate decisions, or refusing to provide proof of insurance.
Residents should also take the time to verify the supposed company is legit and insured, ask for written estimates and references, and never share personal or financial information through unsolicited texts or calls.
