A night that started as a festive celebration of nine senior baseball players ended with a disappointing loss for the Manitowoc Lincoln baseball team.
The Ships welcomed Green Bay Preble to Bruce Steinbecker Field on Senior Night, and the Hornets played spoiler, walking away with an 11-5 win.
Even though the bats were silent for the Ships for the first 4 innings, they were able to take a 2-0 lead thanks to two errant pick-off attempts.
The Hornets would cut the lead in half in the 4th inning and unleashed a 5-run offensive explosion in the 5th, highlighted by a Harrison Selk long ball to right center field.
The Ships would chip away at the 4-run deficit, with one run in the 5th and two more in the 6th, but the Hornets would sting again in the 7th, plating another 5 runs to secure the win.
There were a few bright spots at the plate, including two doubles and an RBI from freshman Bently Henrickson, another double from senior Cade Grapentine, and RBIs from fellow seniors Benson Dickrell and Nick Braun.
The loss drops the Ships to 12-10 on the season and 6th place in the FRCC with an 8-8 record.
They will try to right the ship as it were with a road contest against De Pere on Friday.
