A Sheboygan County gas station under construction is set to honor a local basketball legend.
Destination Kohler has announced that the gas station located at 820 Commerce Lane in the Village of Kohler will be renamed Big Joe’s Fuel & Go, a convenience store that celebrates the life and legacy of Kohler native Joe Wolf, who unexpectedly passed away in 2024.
Currently, the gas station is under major renovations in connection with the reimagining and updates being made to Woodlake Market.
However, upon its reopening will aim to turn a regular old corner store into a community cornerstone, with a warm, welcoming feel, much like its namesake.
The interior of the space will offer all the regular commodities of a convenience store wrapped in the distinctive hues of Bomber and Carolina blue, an homage to the local hoops legend’s two alma maters, Kohler High School and the University of North Carolina.
Wolf shined at UNC before being selected 13th overall in the 1987 NBA Draft by the L.A. Clippers.
Nina Kohler, a Brand Consultant to Kohler Co., who led the transformation of Big Joe’s Fuel & Go, noted, “Our intention with the renovation is for it to be a true cornerstone of the community once again. Not only providing daily essentials for customers, but a place that effuses warmth, welcome, and connection…We believe Joe would love the space.”
Big Joe’s Fuel & Go is set to reopen its doors in June, but a definitive date has yet to be announced.
