The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is congratulating some students for graduating from their DARE program.
72 5th graders from Valders Middle School completed the 10-week DARE program and learned about the dangers and health effects of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
They were also taught to avoid unsafe situations, report bullying, and be positive, productive members of the community.
Valders’s students participated in classroom discussions, workbook activities, and PowerPoint lessons.
Their final assignment was to write an essay explaining what they learned and how they have already applied it to their lives.
Four essays were selected as winners of $25 gift cards, and an additional student got $5 gift cards through a random drawing.
During a celebration, the 5th graders enjoyed a demonstration from Manitowoc Police K9 Riley, experienced drunk goggles, and navigated a closed course while wearing them.
The sheriff’s office explained how inspiring it was to see students’ growth throughout the semester, and seeing them make safe, responsible choices is something to be proud of.
